Charity Work - August 2017 We have been very busy with our Charity Work over the last couple of months.  Our Glasgow Office has taken part in climbing Mount Snowdon raising money for Glasgow Children's Hospital on 5th August 2017 and final donations are getting calculated.  Our Dunfermline Office took part in a Business 5 a-side Football (Scotland's First National 5 A-Side Tournament) we were successful enough to get through to semi-finals and managed to raise over £450.00 for Alzheimer Scotland Charity.    


Scafell Pike - June 2016  Some of our employees managed to successfully reach the top of Scafell Pike on Saturday 4th June to raise money for Glasgow Childrens Hospital (formally Yorkhill Hospital).  Congratulations to all those completed it.  


Scottish Home Awards - May 2016 5No. of our sites have been shortlisted at the above Award Ceremony which is held at The Corn Exchange, Edinburgh on 16 June 2016.  Our 5No. Projects that have been shortlisted are: Large Affordable Housing Developments (More than 100 Units) Vineburgh, Irvine, North Ayrshire with Cunninghame Housing Association Barmulloch, Glasgow with Glasgow Housing Association Sighthill, Glasgow with Glasgow Housing Association Small Affordable Housing Developments (Less than 100 units) Kippen Dairy, Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire with Caledonia Housing Association Apartment Developments (New Build) Varcity, Edinburgh with Miller Homes    Vineburgh Closing Ceremony - September 2015 Scott Bennett Associates was delighted to attend the official closing ceremony of the Vineburgh, Irvine Regeneration Project for Cunninghame Housing Association.  The ceremony was performed on 16 September 2015 by Cabinet Secretary Alex Neal and celebrated the culmination of the construction of 287 houses in four phases over a period of 6 years.  The total cost of the regeneration was approximately £33.0m.  Scott Bennett Associates provided full range of Civil & Structural and Geo-Environmental Engineering Consultancy Services.    


Dalmornock Riverside - May 2015 Scott Bennett Associates have just been appointed as Principle Designer by Link Group to provide Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering Services for the £65m regeneration development of the former Dalmornock Power Station site located in the east end of Glasgow.  The development which is a part of wider regeneration of the area will provide 500 homes for sale and affordable rent on the 22 acre site and will involve major new sustainable drainage infrastructure and roads.  


Barrhead Foundry - May 2015 The Barrhead Foundry was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal.  Princess Anne paid a special  visit to the former sports centre to be given a tour of it's new facilities and officially opened the £3.5 million extension.  We were delighted to the engineers involved in this project.  


Ben Nevis - June 2013 Some of our employees managed to successfully reach the summit of Ben Nevis on Saturday 29th June to raise money for Sick Children's Charity.  With age range of some 45 years between them, speed of accent varied a little.  The fastest time for one our employees was 2 hours and 30 minutes which was approximately 1 hour ahead of the next group.  Congratulations to all those who completed it.    


Scottish Home Awards - June 2013 We were awarded Large Affordable Housing Development of the Year for Development at Garscube Estate.  This project comprises 117 new build houses and flats of mixed tenure including a 34 unit sheltered housing building at Garsube Road in Glasgow.  The buildings range in height from 2 to 6 storeys including undercroft car parking and main feature of this development is the external amenity deck to the rear of the properties which is constructed in lightweight metal framing.  The buildings were utilised a mix of construction techniques including steel frame to span the basement car parking, traditional construction for the lower floors and timber frame for the upper floors and low rise housing.  6 storey high steel towers were used to support the precast concrete stair cores and thereby reduce construction time by removing the stair walls from the critical path for construction.  The development incorporates renewable energy sources in the form of solar panels and was awared the very good BREEAM rating. We were also lucky enough to be awarded Small Affordable Housing Development of the Year for Development in Golspie Street.  This development comprises a total of 114 units for sale and low cost rent on a site that was previosly developed with tenemental properties.  The site is located withing the central Govan area of Glasgow with a long industrial history associated with the adjacent ship yards.  The buildings vary in height between 4-6 storeys with the main terrace comprising steel framed construction with composite concrete floor construction.  A smaller gap site block is constructed in timber frame.  A mix of traditional masonry and curtain walling cladding was used to supported on an inner leaf studding.  The civil works for the site involved contamination remediation and gas protection measures.  The foundations involved augured piling to reduce potential vibrations on the adjacent tenement buildings. Anderston Phase 2 for Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association and Dunsmuir Street for Govan Housing Association were also shortlisted at this year's awards.


Housing Innovation Showcase - June 2013 Our Housing Innovation Showcase at Dunlin Drive, Dunfermline as won another three awards this year.  Green Business Fife Energy Award, RICS Scotland Award - Design & Innovation Award and Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland Award.  This development has a total of seven awards so dar and we hope to win more. 


CHAS Accrediation As of 14 April 2013, we are now glad to say that we are accredited with CHAS. 


Green Hero Award - September 2012 As part of the Project Team we were awarded the Green Hero award for the Kingdom House for Kingdom Houisng Association.  The Project Team received the Award at Edinburgh Castle earlier this month. 


Herald Property Awards - September 2012 Seven of our projects were shortlisted in two categories for these prestigious awards.  Both Green Street (Social Development of the Year) by Thenue Housing Assocition and Elderview (Best Regeneration Project) by Elderpark Housing Association wib their respective categories.  Garscube Estate By Queens Housing Association and Golspie Street (Park View) by Govan Housing Association were recognised by receiving commendations.  We were also shortlisted for Methlan Park, Dumberton and St Anthonys, Garmouth Street, Govan and Rothesay Sheriff Buildings.000000">


Saltire Society Design Awards - September 2012 Five of the company’s projects were listed in the 75th 2012 Saltire Society Housing Design Awards which is supported by The Scottish Government. At a high profile ceremony in Edinburgh the Scottish Housing Minister for Housing and Transport  , Keith Brown MSP, announced the winners which included Fore Street  for Small Housing Development and a commendation for Park View , Golspie Street for Large Scale Housing Development. These developments highlight the typical range of housing projects undertaken by the company and high qulaity of work which we have proud to be associated with over the years in public sector contracts.


Housing Innovation Showcase 2012 - June 2012 We would like thank everyone that made it to the Housing Innovation Showcase earlier this year.  Our raffle prize was won by Eildon Housing Association.  The Housing Innovation was up for the following awards, Scottish Home Awards - Best Affordable Houisng Development of the Year (Housing Associations), Fife Partnership Excellence Award.  You will find the results in our Awards document along with our most recent awards for other projects located on Afflications Page.


Urban Design Awards - May 2012 The readers if Urban Realm, a leading publication which aims to the highlight high quality architectural design in Scotland, has this month nominated Scott Bennett Associates as one of the best engineering companys of 2012.  In their August edition of the magazine, both Fore Street  and Park View developments have been featured. Both projects are located in dense urban areas with an industrial hisorty and are typical of sites that require a high degree of structural and civil engineering expertise to allow them to be developed economically. Fore Street was constructed on an old bakery site, effectively within the backcourt areas of the surronding 4 storey tenements.  A tight site with a novel public access arrangement make this a truly innovative development. Park View (Golspie Street) located in Govan, is just one of 9 major developments the company has been involved with over the past 7 years with a combined value of more £65m, that has helped regenerate the Govan area.  The park View development with its distinctive coloured pods, extending ovcer the height of the 6 storey facade provides a striking introduction to the west end of Govan town centre.  


Autodesk Revit Structures - June 2011 We have recently invested in Autodesk Revit Structures, Building Information Modelling (BIM) software. This software allows production information to be compiled in full scale 3D model as opposed to traditional 2D draughting techniques. Use of BIM also enhances the collaboration between the engineer and the project team, such as architects and M+E engineers, allowing full integration of a 3D model to form a complete single model of the project, incorporating all disciplines information. This provides the ability to carry out detailed clash analysis across the model, to minimize potential issues, and to easily and quickly assess the effects of potential changes during the course of a project. Thereafter the model can be utilised by the contractor allowing programming of works and quantification of materials in a more controlled manner. Revit is fully compatible with our design software packages allowing amendments to be design checked as the model changes throughout the duration of the project. Enhanced with the project architects information the BIM model is a valuable tool for visualisation of the completed project by not only the client but other members of the project team.
